Why I’m using StreetChange fundraising for art supplies and a course
I love drawing, it’s a way for me to earn some money but it’s much more than that. Drawing chills me out no end. I can get lost in a picture but I hate making mistakes.
I’ve been homeless for a long time now and I came up to Edinburgh to make a new start. I’m trying to build a life for myself here and I’m looking into art classes and groups so I can improve my skills. I’d also like to get some decent art supplies too.
How supplies will change my life
The money will help me to get art supplies and improve my work. The felt pens I am using at the moment are ok but they bleed into the black. Decent felts won’t do that so if I can buy a proper pigment liner then the colours won’t bleed into each other. I love drawing, it’s a way for me to earn some money but it’s much more than that. Drawing chills me out no end. I can get lost in a picture but I hate making mistakes. If I make a mistake I’ll rip it up and start again. This is a problem when my felts bleed into each other and I have to keep asking folks for A4 paper. Normally the paper I get is computer paper which is better than drawing on lined paper but it would be nice to have proper drawing paper – I can’t afford that at the moment though.
Art-wise I would love to do more drawing classes to make myself better. People say I don’t need it but there’s always new stuff to learn. Hopefully one day I can find a job in the art industry – maybe as a tattoo artist but I want to build up my skills first.
My goals moving forward
I love drawing. I also like going down to the sea. I go there as much as I can – it’s a bit chilly but it’s a good wake up call! I like swimming in the sea as well – it’s refreshing. In the future I’d quite like to have a dog maybe something I could raise up from a puppy, train him up but I’d be more than happy with a rescue dog because people often overlook the older ones but they need help too. Mostly I’d just like to build a life for myself here. It would be nice to go to some art classes the council run as well. I’d like to improve the quality of my work as I’m trying to get commissions. If I can get decent art supplies then I can take more commissions and start saving up money for a deposit and start moving on with my life basically. I hope to be able to settle down somewhere. I’ve moved around a lot during the time I’ve been homeless so it would be nice to have somewhere to plant my feet.
